CARNEY VOTES TO ASSIST LOCAL FIRE COMPANIES
Congressman Christopher P. Carney today voted in favor of H.R. 3791, The Fire Grants Reauthorization Act, legislation he co-sponsored to reauthorize two critical programs to benefit local fire companies. He joined with Democrats and Republicans in a 395-31 vote to renew the country’s investment in volunteer and career fire departments. The two programs – the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program – have directed more than $5 billion to fire departments for the purchase of equipment and training since 2000, including more than $3.3 million in 2008 alone for fire companies in Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District. ...view more

CARNEY’S COMMEMORATIVE COIN ACT SIGNED INTO LAW
Washington, D.C.—The Medal of Honor Commemorative Coin Act of 2009, a bill introduced earlier this year by Congressman Chris Carney, has been signed into law by the president.  The legislation, H.R. 1209, co-sponsored by Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), will require the Secretary of the Treasury to mint coins in recognition and celebration of America's highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. The Medal of Honor Commemorative Coin Act of 2009 would require the minting of two commemorative coins — one gold and one silver — in 2011 with designs that recognize the three Medals of Honor awarded by the Army, Navy and Air Force.  Each entity has separate designs. ...view more

LOTTERY FOR NATIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING TAKES PLACE THIS WEEK

CONGRESSMAN CARNEY ANNOUNCES BONUS PAYMENTS FOR STOP LOSSED SERVICE MEMBERS
 Washington, DC – Congressman Christopher P. Carney announced that effective October 21, 2009,  special payments are available to over 185,000 service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since September 11, 2001.  Payments will be $500 for every month service members were held under stop-loss orders.  Congress established this payment in the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act enacted this summer. ...view more

 Washington, DC – Congressman Christopher P. Carney has reported for active duty at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia where he will serve through October 13. One of only three Members of Congress currently serving in uniform, Congressman Carney has been in the Navy Reserves since 1995.  He was promoted to the rank of Commander last spring and the promotion became official on September 1, 2009. Washington DC – Congressman Chris Carney announced that the first provisions of the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act (Credit CARD) Act went into effect yesterday, August 20, including an amendment to protect consumers co-authored by Carney. Washington, DC – Local small businesses across northeast and central Pennsylvania may soon be eligible for interest-free loans under a new program created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Rep. Carney announced today.  The newly launched “America’s Recovery Capital” (ARC) program allows small firms to pay down existing business debts without overburdening the firms with interest payments and other costs.  Borrowers pay no interest on the ARC loans and repayment does not begin for one year.
