Farm Bill
With passage of the Farm Bill, we’ve demonstrated a commitment to preserving our family farms and the rural communities that depend on them. This Farm Bill is a well-crafted piece of legislation that reflects the complexities of American agriculture and demonstrates what can be accomplished when people of goodwill set out to do something...view more
First Responders
I recently had the chance to explain some of my legislative priorities to the Dickson City Fire Department Eagle Hose Company. I went to them to discuss my new position as Chairman of the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Management, Oversight and Investigations. This is an incredible responsibility for a new Member of Congress, and I am humbled and honored to take on the task... view more
Illegal Immigration
Recently, I introduced bipartisan legislation that will help our communities fight illegal immigration. I have heard from many people that illegal immigration is a grave concern in our district. Immigration is a federal issue, but it is often left up to the states to enforce. Because of this, local law enforcement need federal funding for the necessary training to handle this sensitive issue... view more
Iraq
Last Sunday, less than a mile from where I was standing, a bomb went off in Baghdad. A suicide bomber, wrapped in dynamite and ball bearings, detonated himself, targeting the college students around him. I was fortunate to be safe, so was everyone from the delegation that I was traveling with, but 41 people lost their lives, dozens more injured. Talking points are distributed to pundits, editorials decry the wasteful spending of congress as charges of fiscal irresponsibility are made. And believe me, people have a right to be concerned. The truth is we are facing a very expensive war, paying for the out-of-control spending by previous congresses, and a president that just raised our national debt ceiling to $9 trillion dollars. (Yep, that's trillion with a '"T"). Unfortunately, the burden of paying for all this spending was placed squarely on the backs of the middle class... view more
Minimum Wage
I came to Congress with a clear goal: to stand up for our working families in Pennsylvania. One of my campaign promises was to work to raise the minimum wage. I was proud to join with 16 other Members of the Pennsylvania delegation and 82 Republicans to take that vote and pass legislation that will directly help and impact our community... view more
Veterans
We’re fighting an insurgency in Iraq. We are sending more and more of our brave men and women in harm’s way. We are using our resources to protect our troops as they fight a war on multiple fronts... view more
