11/3/2009: LOTTERY FOR NATIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING TAKES PLACE THIS WEEK
Washington, DC – The National Park Service has announced a new lottery system for tickets to the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. This is the first year a lottery has ever been held for ticket seekers, in previous years visitors were required to stand in line on a specified day in order to receive tickets.

10/23/2009: CONGRESSMAN CARNEY ANNOUNCES BONUS PAYMENTS FOR STOP LOSSED SERVICE MEMBERS
Washington, DC – Congressman Christopher P. Carney announced that effective October 21, 2009, special payments are available to over 185,000 service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since September 11, 2001. Payments will be $500 for every month service members were held under stop-loss orders. Congress established this payment in the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act enacted this summer.
